The Four-Step Lifecycle
An illustrative agent deployment plan might allocate one to two weeks to the following four-step lifecycle. Actual timing depends on scope, configuration, and readiness checks.
Step 01: Define
Choose a role for your agent (support, sales, HR, legal), give it a name, and describe its purpose. Establish personality, set boundaries, and decide what actions it is authorized to take.
This is where you answer the five planning questions:
- What is this agent FOR? (Its primary objective)
- Who will it talk to? (The target audience)
- What tone should it use? (Its personality)
- What should it NEVER do? (Its guardrails)
- When should it hand off to a human? (Its escalation rules)
Step 02: Train
Upload your business documents, policies, FAQs, and product information into raia Command. This content becomes the agent's knowledge base — the central source of truth. Documents are converted to Markdown, chunked into semantic segments, and embedded into a Vector Store that the agent searches by meaning (not keywords).
Step 03: Test
Use raia Copilot to simulate conversations before the agent interacts with real customers. Catch knowledge gaps and refine behavior without writing any code. Under each reply, Sources lists the files the reply cited.
Step 04: Deploy
Enable the channels you have configured and tested, such as web chat, SMS, email, and voice. Check the experience and operator visibility on each surface before rollout.
Important: The lifecycle is circular, not linear. After deployment, you continuously cycle through Test → Deploy → Improve as your business evolves. For example, plan 10–20 test conversations in Copilot, then assess acceptance criteria, knowledge gaps, permissions, and unintended actions before enabling a live channel; a conversation count alone does not establish readiness.
Example Planning Timeline
| Phase | Duration | Key Activities |
|---|---|---|
| Define | 1–2 days | Answer planning questions, draft objectives and guardrails |
| Train | 2–5 days | Format documents, upload to Command, write system instructions |
| Test | 2–3 days | For example, run 15 test conversations in Copilot, then refine instructions and check readiness |
| Deploy | 1 day | Enable Live Chat first, then expand to other channels |
